2.      Summary A Matter of  Facts

The inverted pyramid is a basic form of news writing which places the information in the story in order of decreasing importance. Basic rules include a short lead and subsequent paragraphs, answering the 5 Ws and H questions in a logical order, writing in active voice, being tight without redundancies and empty words, and writing in third person (he, she) rather than first. The most important details in this text are that news stories should never reflect the opinion of the writer, and that quotes should be used throughout the story to lend authenticity to the reporter's facts. Quotations should be used to alternate factual statements or indirect quotes (transitions) and direct quotes. All quotes must be attributed to a source, and the source should be identified by first and last names and some sort of identification.

News briefs are concise stories written in classic inverted pyramid style. News writing style is the prose style used for news reporting in media such as newspapers, radio and television. It attempts to answer all the basic questions about any particular event at the opening of the article and contains at least one of the following important characteristics relative to the intended audience: proximity, prominence, timeliness, human interest, oddity, or consequence. All future stories should be prepared on the computer and follow these guidelines. The most important details are to insert a header in the upper left corner of the page, include a slug line, reporter's full name, section or page assignment, and date.
